This is the western tradition, the kind that flanks the steps of a bank or a country house. It is not the Chinese guardian lion, which sits differently, has a very different mane, and usually comes with a ball or a cub under one paw.

What Makes This Piece Different

The western guardian form, which is a specific thing. Seated upright with straight forelegs, a naturalistic face and a mane in overlapping locks. Chinese guardian lions sit lower, have a curled stylised mane and usually hold a ball or a cub. If you want the look that flanks a country house entrance rather than a temple gate, this is that lion, and the two are not interchangeable.
A mane deep enough for shadow. The locks are cut rather than suggested, so the head holds contrast at midday rather than flattening out. That is where cast statues usually give themselves away.

Weathering

Moss in the deeper mane cuts and along the plinth suits the aged finish. It is one of the pieces that genuinely improves with a few seasons outside.
