Setup and placement
Fill it, plug it in, done. No plumbing and nothing to bury.
Set it level. With bowls on alternating sides an out of plumb column sends water past the bowl below rather than into it, which puts water outside the fountain.
Which way to face it
The diagonal split runs across one face. Turn that face toward where people sit or pass, since from the side the two tone effect is much less visible.
Water level and daily care
Keep enough water in the base to cover the pump so it never runs dry. Four open bowls lose water faster than a closed reservoir, so check every few days in warm weather.
Clear leaves off the bowl rims. Anything on a lip sends the fall to one side, and on an alternating design that can put water outside the piece.
Looking after the finish
In hard water areas a pale film builds on the wet bowl rims. On the charcoal sections it shows immediately, on the pale grey much less. Clean the rims before it sets rather than after. Keep harsh liquid cleaners off the painted finish.
Winter storage
Before hard freezes, drain the base and every bowl completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and dry the piece out. Water standing in a bowl through a freeze and thaw is what damages stacked designs.

Is the two tone effect obvious?
From the front, yes. The diagonal runs across one face and the two greys are clearly different. From the side it reads as a single dark column, so the orientation matters more on this piece than on a plain one.
Where does it look right?
A porch, a patio corner, a doorway, beside a bench. The grey tones sit with paving, timber decking, and terracotta pots. It is neutral enough for a modern setting and textured enough not to look out of place in a traditional one.
How is it different from the other bowl cascades here?
The column. Most have bowls on a plain support. This one splits the support diagonally into two greys, so the part between the bowls has its own geometry rather than being blank.
Is it safe around children and pets?
